This
report of the Williams Industries International Race Meeting held at the
Bushy Park Raceway, Barbados was made
possible through sponsorship and assistance from Mr. Kamal Seebarran of
Ray's Motor Spares & Auto Sales, Mr. Hemwant Ramdehol of Rose Ramdehol
Auto Sales, Mr. David Panchu Singh & Bunny Persaud of Trinidad & Tobago and the Guyana
Motor Racing & Sports Club.
The
Golden Arrowhead waved proudly in the brisk Bushy Park Breeze. Below
her, members of Team Guyana were busy putting in last minute touches to
their machines. Team Guyana boasted of a full contingent of warriors,
heading the team was Mark Vieira in his VPower Mazda RX7. Jad Rahaman
and Ryan Rahaman provided amour plated reinforcement having enjoyed an
extensive tour of Barbados in 2006 with Jad picking up the 2006 Group 2B
Championship of Barbados . Kamal Seebarran, Kemal Rahaman, Shawn King,
Copper Rahaman, Kem Lall. Compton London completed the nine member
lineup of cars from Guyana and Team CAMS. By the time the dust had
settled Team Guyana has picked up five convincing victories, three
second places and one third place.
Mark
Vieira flew out of Barbados as the group three champion driver with
three solid victories under his belt. Not only did he beat up on the
group three competition but he also crushed the much talked about group
four super cars whose races were run with the group three cars. This was
Mark Vieira finest tour of Barbados and he proved that he is indeed one
of the all time greatest drivers of the Caribbean. This impressive achievement of
Mark Vieira will be remembered for a long time to come. Congratulations
Mark Vieira.
Veteran
Guyanese driving ace Jad Rahaman qualified second fastest on Saturday
but because he broke the time bracket range for his group, he was sent
to the thirteenth position on the grid to start his first race. Jad took
this in stride and worked his way through the tight corners and
competition of Bushy park and finished in fifth place. Jad started race
number two with a much better grid position and finished that race in second
place. He completely stamped his authority in the last event and picked
up the checkered flag much to the delight of the thousands of Guyanese
motor racing fans who were on hand at the Bushy Park raceway to cheer
their countrymen on.
Ryan
Rahaman led most of his first event but was narrowly edged at the finish
line by Phillip Moe. Ryan went on to win his second race easily but was
told that he had broken the time barrier for the group 3B class and as
such he would have to compete in the group 3C division, as such Ryan
made the tough decision to retire from further racing for the day since
he felt that he did not have the necessary power to compete against the
truly powerful cars of that division.
Kemal
Rahaman, the one armed wonder boy received a standing ovation from race
fans and officials when he went up to collect his third place trophy at
the presentation ceremony that was held after the race meeting.
CAMS's Shawn
King drove his heart out and picked up a second place finish for his
effort. Shawn should have ended his Barbados tour with two second places
but was taken out totally in an earlier race by a Bajan driver who
showed little respect for common racing courtesy when he deliberately
slammed into the rear of Shawn's tube frame Mazda RX7 as they came out
of the hammer bend. Hey look out for Shawn King on South Dakota come November 4th, this
kid is driving.
