Round 1 of the
2008 Drag Racing Championship held at the South Dakota Circuit Sunday
March 23rd 2008. Event main sponsored by GT&T Blue Power
and Carib Beer.
The
drag action got underway just after one o'clock in the afternoon with a
series of free runs before the knockout round. Sanjay Persaud with his
sleek looking third generation Mazda RX7 was a definite crowd pleaser
chalking up a number of victories but it was not enough to cement his
place in the final class D round. Ernesto Choo driving a Subaru Impreza
was well on his way to an unbeaten series of runs when he made the
unfortunate mistake of giving a slight advantage to Pierre Singh in the
finals of the class D runs. Pierre's Supra had an excellent launch and held on
to take home the coveted Class D title. Aaron Bethune won the class A
title and also won the class C crown driving two different vehicles.
Ryan Boodhoo won over the competition in the hotly contested class B
grouping with his Toyota EP82 Starlet.
A
Surinamese entry (we will have his name a bit later) was looking
extremely impressive losing only to Ernesto Choo in the free rounds, he
got the better of the other Subaru and got a victory over Sanjay as
well. Unfortunately a slight downpour of rain just as the class D
shootout was happening made the drag strip too slippery and the
Surinamese decided against further competition. Kamal Seebarran
performed the functions of chief starter for today's drag meet. More
names and info on the drivers a bit later.
